Evening Moose Safari, Bodø

Venture into the dusk-lit valleys on an evening moose safari from Bodø in search of Europe's largest land animal. Led by an experienced local guide who knows the specific feeding habits and migratory patterns of the herd, this relaxed vehicle-based safari brings you face-to-face with these long-legged giants in their natural, undisturbed habitat. To round out the experience, the route includes a stop at Saltstraumen to witness the swirling vortexes of the world's strongest tidal current.

The fun begins in Bodø, where you'll meet your guide and set off into the surrounding Northern Norwegian countryside. Traveling roughly 25 miles (40 km) outside the city, you'll head into areas where moose are known to roam and graze, with your guide sharing insights into the animal's habits and behaviors and using their acquired knowledge to help you spot them in the wild. They're an impressive sight. Though despite their massive size, they're naturally shy and cautious, so your guide will take care to set everyone (you and the moose) up for success: observing them from a respectful distance. 

Keep your camera handy, as there are plenty of opportunities to photograph the moose and perhaps spot other native wildlife, including reindeer and white-tailed eagles. And to help you stay in the moment, your guide will snap pics on your behalf, so you'll have images from the experience to take home. 

Your safari also includes a stop at Saltstraumen, a small strait outside of Bodø with one of the world's strongest tidal currents and maelstroms. Here, you'll have the chance to walk along Saltstraumen Bridge and look down at the powerful whirlpools created as enormous volumes of seawater rush through the narrow strait. After an evening of wildlife watching and sightseeing, you'll return to Bodø.
