Hosted by a Maasai warrior (Stanley) , we got a rich immersion in the Maasai cuture, including their schools, their homes, and learning about their guiding philosophies, which really helped us also appreciate the Mara once we arrived at the park. The balloon safari was also amazing - it really gave you a sense for how vast the savannah really is.

The illtalala Community visit was incredible and a highlight of our time in Kenya. Our host, Stanley (a Maasai warrior), along with several more warriors welcomed us with a traditional greeting and song and presented us with our very own Shuka (a traditional wrap worn by the Maasai). We had a wonderful lunch in the bush and then visited the local school, learning about the progress the children are making and opportunities to continue strengthening their opportunities. We also visitied a Maasai homestead, learning how they live and support their families, as well as how the Maasai Tribe functions. We ended the day with a Nature Walk and dinner in the bush, meeting many Maasai along the way. It was a wonderful experience and gave me an opportunity to quickly immerse in the elements that are the Maasai people

I spent 2 weeks with my daughter, niece and friend in Zambia traveling between 4 different Green Safari properties in Kafue, South Luangwa, Lower Zambezi & Livingstone and had a wonderful time in each - game drives, sundowners and special touches that celebrated the uniqueness of each location: Ile Safari Lodge set the tone with a tremendous staff that made us feel right at home & we were very sad to leave. Our guide, Allie was phenomenal - knowledgeable, funny and so personable. - soo many animals, and great night drives. Shawa Bush Camp welcomed us with a song & kept celebrating for our entire visit, including an amazing dinner of local food/singing. Sebastian got us up close and personal to lions, giraffes and so many Ellies! Walking safari was incredible. Potato Bush Camp was incredibly beautiful, and their events celebrating the river & the bush were top notch. Finishing up at Tongabezi was a wonderful way to end our adventure - Koffi helped us see Victoria Falls from all vantage points (Zimbabwe, zambia, and Devils Pool), some White Rhinos, and do a bit of shopping all in one day and still have some time to relax and enjoy the beautiful property.

Tongabezi Lodge
Livingstone

Tongabezi Lodge was a wonderful way to end our 12 day trip in Zambia, partifularly after spending 9 days in the bush. This is really a resort, and the amenities are top notch - we even splurged on airconditioning. The food was fantastic and the houses we stayed in were luxurious - several of us took a bath out on the very private veranda, while others enjoyed the plunge pool. We stayed 2 nights, but honestly I could've stayed on more day and just hung out at the hotel.

Potato Bush has an absolutely beautiful setting to leverage - located on a small channel off the Lower Zambezi River, we had breakfast every morning with Hippos waking up right in front of us and Elephants crossing the river to snack on grasses at a nearby island. Game drives took on a different "tone" here - celebrating the river a bit more with boat cruises. The water lunch (lunch on a sandbar) was out of this world, as was the bush dinner.

Authenticity & Character
Built right on the river, you get to experience all of the wildlife around you

Lower Zambezi is breathtaking - the prettiest location we stayed

Shawa Luangwa Camp

Shawa Luangwa Camp delivered the most amazing hospitality on our trip, starting with the staff greeting us with a celebratory song. The manager, Kufa was incredible - friendly, caring and aware of the little details that made our stay wonderful. Our valet, Amos was also wonderful - he always had a smile on his face and very quickly got to know us. The rooms have an amazing view, and we loved the "easy breeze" cooling that provided a comfortable nights sleep on the hotter days of our visit. They also hosted a communal dinner that shared the local food and customs with us one night and it was great.

Authenticity & Character
The level of hospitality provided and felt here was top notch.

Ila was my favorite lodge on this trip. The entire staff made us feel welcome and looked after from the moment we stepped off the plane. Located right on the Kafue River, the Lodge is integrated into the landscape and allows you to experience the bush intimately: From waking to Hippos "singing", to sighting an elephant or bushback near our cabin, I was at ease the entire visit. The staff was tremendous - always anticipating any need we may have, and genuienlty curious about getting to know us and sharing themselves as well. The chef was tremendous!

As we only had one full day at Tonabezi, we had a list of things we wanted to do and our guide Koffi helped us accomplish all of them. We started out seeing Victoria Falls from the Zambezi side, then headed to Devlls Pool, which was a highlight of the trip for me and my group. The staff at Livingstone Island was top notch - all four of us swam out to the pool, even though originally only 2 of us wanted to go. It was fabulous. We followed up with a trip to view White Rhino and also the Zambia side of Victoria Falls and then some local shopping for fabrics. Every step of the day was smooth and unhurried. My favorite lodge/camp of our trip was Ila Lodge with our guide Ali. We had many memorable game drives, a surprise boat lunch cruise, a boat safari, and riverside sundowners with the most amazing sunset.

All of the lodges and camps through Green Safaris were amazing. There were surprises around every corner. We were not only able to see so many different animals. but we learned so much about the different national parks and Zambia. We had once in a lifetime experiences at each camp, including lunch in the river with elephants, a community dinner in the bush, and a community dinner complete with singing and dancing.

This trip was truly amazing from start to finish.

She worked with us on our itinerary, was able to present different options for our consideration, and selected great camps, hotels, transportation, and guides, all within our budget. We really enjoyed the Ivory Wilderness River Rock Lodge and highly recommend it; we then had a scenic sightseeing trip to Hazyview via the Panorama Route Scenic Tour, and thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Bambuu Lakeside Lodge; we then went to Umkumbe Bush Lodge in Sabi Sands and thought it was great. Janneke did a great job in providing two contrasting camps that were each exceptional in their own way. We then went to Victoria Falls with an evening cruise, walked the falls the next day, then went to Dusty Road Township restaurant which was amazing. A perfect itinerary for the Falls. Janneke arrange all the transportation for the trip that went off without a hitch, as well as put us in touch with local travel agents to arrange our flights in-country. She also set us up with a whatapp account so we could be in real time contact with her as we went through the trip, and she checked in regularly. This level of attentativeness made us fell very comfortable. I would book through her again in a moment.

This goes for all our game drives; it is a great experience riding in the landcruisers and becoming one with the bush. You slowly learn how to look for game in the grasses and bushes, and the guide teaches you how to read tracks in the road and on trails. You never know what you will see next or when you will see it, and it is always such a rush when you happen on the rhinos or lions or hippos. Being up early in the morning before the sun comes up, and out in the evening as the sun goes down and the stars fill this sky is just mesmorizing. The game walks take place around noon before lunch, and while you may see some animals you tend to focus on the trees, flowers, bushes, insects. You learn how such items are used on a daily basis for medicine or for food; you never forget when the guide lit some elephant dung on fire and everyone had a whiff of the smoke - very clean and good for your chest if you have a cold!

The whale watching in Hermanus was not worth the time it took. It involved a two-hour drive each way and only a couple of hours on the boat, which took up a whole day and cut into our time in Cape Town. While we did see a lot of whales, the travel time made it less enjoyable and I would not recommend it if you want to maximize your time in the city.

Must do when in Constantia. We went to some boutique wine farms and were treated like royalty because we had Freda out sommelier with us. 4 tastings turned to 10! Freda was knowledgeable and this was a highlight of the trip

From the initial introductory discussion with Janneke through to the end of our trip, our experience of working with Janneke was absolutely superb. She organised a 3 1/2 week family holiday in South Africa and Namibia. Her knowledge and advice from the outset was second to none and ensured that we had a very memorable holiday, staying in 10 different locations, with no 'duds'. We immediately warmed to her enthusiasm for her country, and she was always available throughout the trip to give advice. We even met up near her home on the garden route which was particularly lovely. Given our family situation we had some specific requirements, which were all clearly understood and acted on. All the local partners that she worked with were friendly and knowledgeable - they were clearly well vetted. Particular shout out to Andrew our guide in Cape Town and the wine region and to the team in Namibia.

In terms of highlights, I'd go back to every spot, but top of the list would be Franschhoek (La Cotte Farm) and Hohenstein Lodge in Damaraland, Namibia.

So thank you Janneke and to the team - we will be in touch next time we come to south africa for sure! We need to go to Babylonstoren when it's not raining!

Beautiful place in the middle of nowhere with fantastic views. The stars were mindblowing. Really lovely food too. Slightly let down by one or two of the staff members giving a 'can't be bothered' impression, exacerbated by several missing things in our rooms (a missing duvet, missing towels). It was a long walk from the rooms to the reception so this stuff was annoying, but didn't overall detract from a memorable stay.

This trip to South Africa was my first time using KimKim. I wasn't quite sure how to even start with a 2-week safari trip and since a family member recommended them, I decided to give it a try. From the very beginning when Anna-marie answered my request it was simple and reassuring. After we had our first call, she grasped exactly what our family group of eight was looking for. The recommendations were spot on and now that the trip is over not one thing disappointed. Anna-marie was always available and ready to help both before the trip and throughout our two weeks of travel. Top notch travel agent!!!!!
First off, every driver was on time and waiting for us with a smile and more than willing to help and educate us about the area, no matter how long or short the transport was. We never experienced any issues at all. Even the weather cooperated 100%!

Capetown - The rooms and staff at Blackheath Lodge were outstanding. Riano greeted us and made sure we were taken care of all three days and nights. The welcome cocktail and anniversary bubbles were a great surprise after the long travel. The hotel was close enough for us to walk down to the waterfront the next morning after a great breakfast. The first day was on our own to catch up from the day of travel and that worked great. That night Anna-marie made us reservations for dinner at Kloof Street House. Highly recommend this. The dinner and atmosphere were wonderful!
The next day we were greeted by Radheeka, our A+ guide with Earthstompers, for the next two days. She entertained us and safely drove us around the Cape, to the penguins, lunch at Crofter's Kitchen and to and through the wine farms in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Both days exceeded our expectations and were a great quick lesson about southern South Africa.

Franschhoek - We spent two nights at La Fontaine Boutique Hotel. Again, the hotel and staff were excellent. Our free day was a Saturday so after breakfast (where Anna-marie joined us, which was so great to meet her) we decided to venture out to the town's market. We managed to spend hours there and then relaxed before dining at Reuben's, another restaurant Anna-marie recommended. And again, very good. We loved having time in the wine country.

Walkers Plains Camp - Anna-marie really talked this place up. Honestly, we didn't really know what to expect but it was outstanding! All eight of us wished we would have spent another day. We ended up with two nights and four game drives. Our guide Roan and his tracker, Walter, were with us all four drives and we had the time of our lives. Searching out the animals was so fun and finding them was like WOW! Watching the lions, the elephants, the giraffes, the hippos, the leopards, the hyenas, and then all the birds and impalas in their habitat, while being educated at the same time in a private quiet setting was amazing! After the ~4 hours we came back to outstanding meals in a beautiful setting. Perfect!

Panorama Route Scenic Tour to Tanamera Lodge - Themba drove us through the beautiful mountains of South Africa from our safari to our hotel before flying out to Victoria Falls. Again, Anna-marie highly recommended we do the day long drive and we were amazed at the scenic viewpoints and the stops along the way. Again, she was right. Themba was a great driver and provided an entertaining educational "lecture" thru out the drive. We learned alot about the native South African history as well as the importance of the area we were touring. Themba arrived at our hotel just in time for the sunset. We knew we wanted to see the sunset at Tanamera and again WOW! The view was spectacular!! The hotel was very unique and we loved it. The dinner was delicious and the hot water bottles in the beds were perfect for the chilly night. It was fun spending the night in the trees and admiring the night sky.

Victoria Falls - This is something we said we needed to do if we were this close. The Falls were absolutely beautiful and powerful and the walking path around the falls was amazing. Hundreds of pictures! The sunset cruise on the Zambezi Vista was one of our highlights. More animals but the sunset was huge! As someone who loves sunsets this was one of a kind. The drinks and food were very good and our captain, (? we forgot his name) and bartender, Freeman, took excellent care of us. It was sponsored by the hotel, so transportation was provided. I would say if there was anything that was a little disappointing during our trip it was Insinka Lodge. The hotel wants to be a high-end hotel but they definitely cut corners. Most of the staff, especially front of house, were not as helpful or friendly as the other places (except Trudy in the restaurant). I had read reviews about checking your bar bills and that was very good advice. Nothing bad happened but I would probably look for some other place next time. The side trips were good. We were glad we did the Dusty Road Township, especially because our Victoria Falls driver Tuffy (A+) was from the township and provided us with a narrated tour which was very interesting. Tuffy also took us the Botswana for the Chobe day trip with Bushtracks which was again something we were not sure of but turned out to be one of our favorite days. It was a great final day.
As a family, we have done some great overseas vacations, and this one is rated our number 1! We were treated like royalty from the moment KimKim connected us with Anna-marie. Many thanks to her for all her hard work and to all the fabulous people she lined up and we were fortunate to meet along the way! She made our 50th wedding anniversary very memorable!!!

Hotel Reviews
Insika Lodge
Victoria Falls

The hotel was nice. The staff, especially the front of house, was not very accommodating or willing to offer assistance. Never really got that friendly feeling or that they were glad we were there. The one exception was the sunset cruise staff on the boat. They were very friendly and wanted to make sure everyone had a great night. And we did. We had read reviews that suggested you make sure to check your bar bills and that proved to be good advice. When we checked in, our four rooms were located across the resort from each other even though our reservations were mad months in advance. That was disappointing and could not be changed. One of the rooms had the wrong name on it and the wrong name was still on the emails received after checking out. They want to appear as if they are a higher end resort, but they definitely cut corners that make a difference.

Hello Jessica,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and incredibly kind review. ❤️

Your family was truly amazing to work with, and it was such a pleasure planning this special trip with you all. I loved getting to know what was important to your family and finding the places and experiences that would make your 50th wedding anniversary so memorable.

And I am so happy that Walkers Plains lived up to my very strong recommendation! 😍 It was wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed the safari, the Cape, the Panorama Route and Victoria Falls. There are so many people behind a trip like this, and I am grateful to all the wonderful guides, drivers and teams who helped make it so special.

Meeting you in Franschhoek was also such a highlight for me. It is always lovely when clients go from being names on a booking to people you have actually met and shared a little time with.

Thank you for trusting me with such an important family celebration. Knowing that this trip has become your family's number one overseas vacation means more than you know. ❤️

Wishing you all many more adventures together!

Warm greetings
