We left the US on June 25 and did not begin our KimKim portion until July 5. In our communication, this did not get conveyed well. The video Taylor provided did help but a zoom call would have been better. We also should have reviewed KimKim's recommendations closer prior to departure to confirm that they suited us.

The KimKim app is excellent! User friendly and wonderful to have all tickets and vouchers easily accessible.

KimKim's communication is also superb- they respond to text messages and emails quickly and their responses were clear and helpful.

Hotel Reviews

The hotel was in a great location. The staff- friendly, professional and helpful. It was clean and met our needs. There were many tour groups with us at the hotel. A more elegant, boutique-type hotel would have been our preference. Breakfast and dinner were provided. The breakfast was excellent and the dinner- we did not realize was part of the package so a bonus. It was a buffet and nothing exceptional, but it served its purpose well.

It was a long day, and we should have researched more. We only had 3 1/2 hours in Rosendale. The tours of the barony and garden did not line up with our time there- we had to select one. There was not enough time to visit the church or to take a hike to the waterfall. Next time, I would plan to spend the night in one of the lovely hotels available. I would also want to explore the National Park. And if time was a concern, I would skip this activity and spend an extra day on the Sogneford Route.

Norway in a Nutshell Sogenfjord Route: Ferry and train rides from Bergen to Oslo Central Station was stunning and an absolute must! It is a very long day. We wish we would have broken up into 2 days and stayed one night along the way- perhaps at Balestrand or Flam. Flam was very busy with many tourists and cruise ships The Flam train- definitely plan to sit on right side for the views. There are also no reserved seats so get in line early. The Kjosfossen Waterfall- beautiful and definitely worth getting off train to see. Bike riding from Myrdal to Flam would have been a fun activity to include. While visiting Flam, there is luggage storage at the tourist center. The train ride from Myrdal to Oslo- very enjoyable and loved the views along the way. Driver from train station to Oslo airport- professional and enjoyed the conversation.

Hi Peter!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughtful review! I’m so happy to hear that you had a wonderful time and that Norway felt like the very special destination it truly is.

It’s also wonderful to hear that you loved the kimkim app! Having all of your tickets, vouchers, itinerary details, and information easily accessible in one place is something we’re really proud of, so it makes me so happy to know that you found it user-friendly and helpful throughout your travels. And thank you for the kind words about our communication as well. We always want our travelers to feel supported and know that someone is there to help when questions come up.

I also really appreciate your honest feedback about having a Zoom call before departure. I’m glad the video was useful, but I completely understand how a live conversation could have provided that extra level of clarity and confidence.

Thank you again for trusting me and the kimkim team with your Norway adventure. It was a pleasure helping you plan your trip, and I’m so glad that despite a few things we could have communicated better, you were able to experience the beauty and magic of Norway. I hope you came home with some truly wonderful memories!😊🇳🇴

Having Kimkim's assistance in planning our 17 day self-drive tour of Norway was very helpful. We started with a long list of places we wished to visit and Katie helped us reduce our list to the most important destinations that were within a few hours drive of each other. Most of the lodges we stayed at were fine but one was terrible (Batsfjord Rorbuer). We ended up leaving after our first night and getting a much nicer Airbnb place for the second night. In Alesund we could not fit our luggage into the standard room at Quality Hotel Waterfront so we paid for an upgrade to a larger room with a nice view. Otherwise things went well.

Varanger View

This was our favorite lodging of our entire 2.5 week tour of Norway. Our cabin was new and well insulated so that we did not need to use a heater even on cold days. The living room had a huge window overlooking a grassy area where reindeer grazed each day. We also could see the Barents Sea and the island of Vardo in the distance. The proprietor welcomed us with a bowl of fresh grapes and a fresh loaf of bread and stocked the refrigerator with cheese, yogurt, eggs and other useful staples. The day trip to Hornoya Island was special. A short drive from Varanger View there were other species of birds which my husband was able to photograph. We loved this place!

Our one bedroom apartment with kitchen, living room and bathroom was plain but spacious and comfortable . We enjoyed having the extra space and appreciated the proximity to the Atlantic Puffins.

Båtsfjord Rorbuer
Båtsfjord

We were the middle of three attached fisherman's cabins. The room was rather dingy. Our sleep was disturbed by hearing the snoring and groaning of people in the neighboring cabins throughout the night. Apparently the walls were paper thin. The restaurant options in Batsfjord are very limited. The owner of the hotel and Batsfjord Rorbuer who also was the chef at the restaurant kindly prepared a healthy meal for me (grilled fish, potatoes and vegetables) in place of the fried fish and chips option that was on the menu. There would have been no other suitable restaurants if we had stayed the second night.

Quality Hotel Waterfront
Ålesund

The room in which we were booked was too small to accommodate our luggage (2 roller duffel bags, backpack of camera gear and two day packs). There was maybe just a foot of space between the beds and desk so walking around the room would have been challenging. And the promised view was just a glimpse of water if one stood in the right spot. We ended up with a very nice room with a view after we upgraded from the basic room to a junior suite. A very helpful front desk employee took charge of our upgrade. I think she gave us the best of the larger rooms that was available. We had a great view and plenty of room.

We were lucky to arrive at places in between tour buses and cruise ships. Most of the towns had very large cruise ships docked in the fjords nearby and that created a crowded downtowns while people were off the ship or bus tours. Norway has a short tourist season and lovely cool weather, so plan ahead. I was very happy with the service provided by Kimkim and the app made finding tickets and confirmations very easy.

Norway June 2026 Review
We used KimKim for the second time to help with itinerary, activities, lodging etc for a 2 week trip to Norway. We were very happy with how everything turned out, much like our first trip two years ago using KimKim to visit Ireland.
We were delighted to work with Mathia on all our planning, especially as he lives in the area where we were spending quite a bit of time. To have someone that is boots on the ground and intimately familiar with where you are traveling is invaluable.
Outside of spending a couple days in Oslo (beginning) and Bergen (end), we spent the majority of our time up north in the Lofoten, Versteralen, and Senja islands. Incredible scenery, activities, people and food. It is hard to pick a favorite, but a few highlights were our stay in Reine (the Reine Rorbuer was our favorite lodging, so historical and authentic), the Trollfjord silent (electric boat) cruise in Svolvaer, the bike ride around the Versteralen island, and pretty much all of Senja - we stayed in Mefjordvaer and thought it was the perfect location.
When traveling to this part of Norway, the weather can be rainy and it it’s important to be flexible on plans, on short notice. This is where working with Mathia was so helpful. Not only did we have great communication and rapport with Mathia during the planning phase of the trip, he checked in with us regularly, and assisted in adjusting plans where needed. An added bonus was getting to meet him in person in Versteralen. Although the plan was to do a hike with him, weather was not great, so he had a good plan B to tour a historical home in the area and then we had coffee and just chatted for awhile after that. You learn so much from spending some time with people who are local, and Mathia being willing to do that with us was so special and meaningful,
So kudos to everyone involved in helping make this trip a reality for us, and to those who may be traveling to Norway, I hope you can work with Mathia as well. He is an awesome trip planner, really listens, has great communication, and is just a very special person.

Hotel Review
Reine Rorbuer
Reine

Our favorite accommodation was definitely Reine Rorbuer in Reine. The retrofitted fishing cabins over the water were rustic but cozy and authentic. The location was stunning, and the place had a very special charm and character that we loved. It wasn't the most luxurious, but it was perfect for us as we prefer mid-range accommodations and don't spend much time in hotels. The breakfast was amazing, and the nearby restaurant and a little Italian place in the village were fantastic. Overall, it was a very special and beautiful place to stay.

The Trollfjord Cruise was really awesome. Even though the weather was not perfect, drizzly and overcast, it was still a great experience. The cruise was a highlight of our trip and we enjoyed it very much.

Stokmarknes

The bike trip around Hadseløya was a fantastic experience. It was about 26 miles around the island, and it ended up being just the two of us and our guide, who was an amazing local in his seventies but very fit. He had lived on the island for 40 years and shared many interesting stories. We had lunch halfway through the ride, and the scenery was breathtaking. It was a full day of biking and learning about the local culture, which made it very special.

Svolvær

We did the Arctic Trails Hike with a wonderful guide, but unfortunately, it rained the entire time. We had to cut the hike short since the views were not visible due to the weather. Despite the rain, we made the best of it and appreciated the flexibility of the guide and the experience overall.

Reading about your favorite moments brought a big smile to my face.
Meeting you both in Hadseløya was definitely one of the highlights for me as well. Although the weather didn't allow us to do the hike we had planned, we had the opportunity to explore together, visit the historical home, and spend some time over coffee. Those conversations are one of the things I enjoy most about my work, and I'm grateful we had the chance to share that experience.
Thank you for your kind words about my work and for putting your trust in me throughout the planning process. It was a pleasure to be there to help whenever plans needed adjusting, and I'm delighted that the flexibility paid off. It was wonderful meeting you, and I hope our paths cross again someday, whether in Norway or on another adventure.
I wish you and your family all the best. :)

Hello KimKim - a brief note and thank you for your key role in what was a such a memorable and wonderful experience in Norway - your staff was super responsive from start to finish, the accomodations and transfers booked for us worked beautifully throughout, the events were well paced, everything came together as well as we could have hoped for. It was, as labeled, an "Amazing Hiking Trip in the Hardangerfjord Region" and Norway, its physical beauty and welcoming people, will be cherished memories.
Much appreciated, Andy

It took a bit of digging to find things to do in Flam-- but the sauna on the fjord was great as was the nearby farm which served a delicious lunch. The mini bus tour to the outskirts of Flam was very worthwhile. Bergen is crowded with people off the cruise ships. Ausland is lovely - it doesn't take much time to see but is a worthwhile stop. The Gehringer fjord should not be missed. And we loved Trondheim- great historic sights and a lovely town. We were there in June and it was cool and rained everyday for a part of the day. Constant switching from sun to clouds and back again. Dress accordingly.

We came to this town just to stay in the hotel. All rooms have balconies and we were on the 8th floor and the view was amazing - we saw the town with fjords on either side. Be aware the only place to eat dinner is in their expensive restaurant.

You can take this boat for more than a week but we just did one night as we are not cruise fans. The boat is lovely and there were many seating/view areas that were not crowded. The cabin was bigger than we expected. Food was fine but I wouldn't want to eat it for a week. The check in could be much improved. We were told to wait in line for half an hour to get our dinner seating assignment, only to find out there was no reserved seating for that night, which was our only night. We should have been told we did not need to go on the line. When we did go to dinner there was a wait but they don't put people on a list which is ridiculous.

Hotel Reviews
Scandic Torget
Bergen

The hotel in Bergen was in an excellent location, which was very convenient. The hotel itself was nothing special—neither particularly impressive nor disappointing. It was quite utilitarian and didn't stand out as a place I'd want to stay again, but there were no major issues either.

Hotel Aurlandsfjord
Aurland

The hotel in Aurland was my favorite. I was lucky to have a room with a deck looking right out into the fjords, which was an incredible view. We spent time every day on my deck having cocktails, and it was just amazing to be able to look out at the fjord from the comfort of the room. The other two rooms were different, but that was due to availability, not the service. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel.

Thon Hotel Ålesund
Ålesund

The hotel in Ålesund was the most luxurious of the three main hotels we stayed at. It had the nicest lobby and a great setup for breakfast. It felt more upscale compared to the others, and I would highly recommend it.

This trip was created together with your help, and it simply wouldn't have been the same without your extraordinary kindness, enthusiasm, and support throughout the entire process. Every conversation made it better, and I genuinely felt we were building something special together.
Meeting you both personally on my island made everything even more meaningful. What started as planning a journey has opened the door to what I hope will be a sincere and lasting friendship. Moments like these remind me why I love what I do.
I think our mutual friend, Alan Watts, says it better than I ever could:
"This is the real secret of life. To be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play."
Please continue spreading your gift of listening, your kindness, and your wise advice wherever you go. The world truly needs more people like you. Thank you again, and I hope our paths cross again very soon.
I wish you and your families all the best. :)
